Audi RSQ3 – Pocket-Sized Performance

If Audi see the tiniest gap in the car market they clearly feel compelled to fill it. Buyers of the more enthusiastic style of small hatch are already catered for by the German brand’s brilliant hot pocket rocket, the RS3. Thus it seems to me that to make, effectively, a taller version of the same thing seems wilfully pointless. So why do I love the Audi RSQ3 Performance so? Continue reading

Ford Take Us To The Edge

Today’s car is the Ford Edge, arguably the most American-looking of the the SUV class available to euro-buyers. Reaction among reviewers has been mixed. I sometimes wonder if reviewers don’t sometimes forget who is buying the car. Further on I mention some of the dashboard plastics. I wonder how many purchasers will even notice? I’m biased of course because I like big American trucks so I guess I was sold on the car at first sight. Continue reading

Skoda Octavia Scout – Practical Power & Purpose

I like a Skoda. I may have mentioned this before. They are competitively priced, well made and always surprisingly commodious. The Skoda Octavia Scout featured here is no different and is, in my opinion, worthy of consideration, especially for country dwellers. The regular Octavia Estate if fine but if you need a little more ground clearance and the benefits of intelligent four-wheel drive then the Scout is for you. Continue reading

The Volvo V40 R-Design – Ha en säker resa.

When you’ve done a big shop and stowed the bags in the boot of your average car, isn’t it irritating to get home only to find all the groceries strewn about like the aftermath of a grenade strike. Tins rolling around, packets splitting open and a lost root vegetable that has bounced to oblivion to rot and to smell. Wouldn’t it be good if some car maker came up with a nifty idea to stop that happening? That would be fantastic, that. Enter, stage left, the Volvo V40 D3 R-Design Pro. Continue reading

Nissan – Finger On The Pulsar

There’s a whole flotilla of quality small cars on the market these days so the Nissan Pulsar has its work cut out to impress in the highly competitive family hatchback market. The good news is that, like its bigger brothers the Qashqai and the X-Trail, the Pulsar impresses. Continue reading

Jaguar F-Pace – The Distinctive SUV

As you no doubt know, the Jaguar F-Pace has been warmly received and is highly regarded. What’s not to like, after all? It is stylish and well made right here in Britain; it drives with athletic prowess and there’s ample space for the whole family yet I couldn’t quite help harbouring a slight sense of disappointment when the first snaps appeared. I guess I was hoping for something different and more exciting. I’m not complaining though; after all I am very fortunate to be loaned these cars and the distinctive Jaguar F-Pace almost reaches the pinnacle of the prestige SUV pole. Continue reading

Cars & Advertising: Make It Stop.

A company has employed professional man-candy Johnny Depp to be ‘The Face Of’ a scent for men. In it he encounters a commuting buffalo, does some digging and and stands in the wilderness with a thousand-yard stare. What does this tell you other than the advertising ‘executive’ who came up with this tosh presumably has a mentality that makes Ronnie Pickering seem like a dangerous intellectual. Welcome to the world of advertising. Continue reading

Range Rover Evoque – Combining Style & Substance

The latest, recently refreshed Range Rover Evoque – seen here in HSE Dynamic Lux trim – is now equipped with the brand’s four-cylinder ‘Ingenium’ engine and is all the better for it. Sexily styled in Firenze Red paint and black 20” alloys the Evoque shows once again that there is substance behind the style. Mrs DriveWrite bonded with it very quickly and required and charged me to, basically, nick it. As you can imagine I was shocked and swiftly counselled against such an action but she is not wrong. It really is a very good car. Continue reading
