Volkswagen World Rally Team Stop At The Top

As a Rally enthusiast I from time to time try to persuade others that there is no better branch of motor sport. Driving as it should be and far more exciting a spectacle than the tedium that is Formula One. Although there are many diehard fans (see Rally Wales) for some odd reason this sport has failed to ignite the public as it once did in the deadly days of the old Group B cars. It doesn’t help when the most successful team ups and quits without a word of warning. Continue reading

Beaulieu – Another Grand Day Out

Last week I was saying goodbye to the outgoing Land Rover Discovery before it is replaced. I wanted to complete a good, long round trip as a form of valediction for a venerable car that is, even now, still one of the best all-rounders out there. As this model departs into history it seemed appropriate to visit Beaulieu National Motor Museum in Hampshire. Continue reading

Pikes Peak not being enough for them apparently, Subaru of America have announced that the company intend to make yet another record attempt on the legendary and sacred Isle of Man TT Course, this time with rally driver Mark Higgins. Higgins will drive an all-new 2016 Subaru WRX STI time attack car that was jointly developed by Subaru of America and Prodrive, with technical assistance provided by Subaru Tecnica International (that’s the STI part). The new car is purpose built for the Isle of Man TT Course. Continue reading

Remembering Classic Cars

Remember The Italian Job? Not the cheesy American remake but the 1969 original set mostly in Turin with classic cars, proper minis and the bloody doors. Of course you do. When you see it in the TV schedules you bookmark it to watch even though you can probably recite the whole script. In fact, you probably have the DVD. Continue reading

Honda Civic Type R – Men 2 Boyz

One of the things that gladdens my heart is the knowledge that car makers are still prepared to build cars like the Honda Civic Type R featured here. Cars that fly in the face of the current mood of eco-consciousness like a hot dog stand at a vegan conference. People who ask, ‘what is the point of vents and gills that don’t appear to do anything’, are, by saying that, missing the very point of them. Continue reading

Volvo Polestar Performance Parts

As I am, this very morning, in receipt of a very smart Volvo S60 for a week of Swedish comfort cruising, I feel honour bound to mention that Polestar, Volvo’s sporting cousin, has introduced a whole new line of high-performance products called Polestar Performance Parts, which offer, they say, even more driving pleasure to Volvo drivers.
