The Plan For 2040

In July, the government announced a plan to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel by 2040 in an attempt to clean up the air quality in the UK. This news follows in the footsteps of some of our neighbouring countries who also plan for an all-electric nation in the future. Norway plan to stop the sales of petrol and diesel by 2025 and Germany by 2030, with France working towards the same target as the UK’s plan for 2040. Continue reading

Why I’d Love A Cadillac Cimarron. Probably.

The other day I was asked to write an article about some 20th Century American cars. It was during the research that I came across the Cadillac Cimarron and it struck a chord. For some reason that was initially hard to grasp, let alone explain, I had the urge to own one. Continue reading

Citroen C3 Is A Real Surprise

This pleases me. I like a car that, whilst competing deep within the supermini sector, offers a little bit of flair and individuality that sets it apart. Such is the case with the Citroen C3 you see here, loaned to me in the top-specification Flair trim (see below). Admittedly I’m biased, being a fan of the brand and indeed a Citroen owner but this car has real merit in my opinion. Continue reading

Elfyn Evans: Cream Of The British WRC Crop

This year’s World Rally Championship has been one of the best for many years, the excitement harking back to the bad old days of the Group B cars, only considerably safer. Although the accidents are often as spectacular as those lethal 1980’s crashes, the latest cars have proved themselves capable of protecting the crew to the last chunk of metal. Continue reading

Could You Hack A Traffic Light?

A concept that sounds too dangerous to be true, as cities become ‘smarter’ and our infrastructure becomes more heavily entwined with emerging digital technologies, efforts to make our cities safer certainly come in strange packages. Continue reading

Traffic Fury: Careless Or Couldn’t Care Less Driving

There is a three-lane road in my town. One lane is a bus lane, hence the central lane is southbound, the outer lane northbound. Whilst driving in the centre lane I was confronted by an on-coming car. Fair enough, Perhaps he thought it was an overtaking lane, although the signage is clear enough. Continue reading

Add A Dashcam For Safety & Security

Cars today come with all manner of lifestyle and safety technology designed to make our journeys less boring and more secure but we still do not have any control over what happens outside the vehicle. There are plenty of careless or couldn’t care less drivers on our highways and, although we hear less about it these days, that nasty ‘cash for crash’ scam has not gone away. Criminals are being ever more inventive as to how they think they can con us out of insurance money. That’s why dashboard or windscreen mounted cameras are a great idea. The dashcam has come of age. Mitsubishi Shogun – When The Going Gets Tough etc

The Mitsubishi Shogun is one of the last of its kind. An ageing off-roader that has served with distinction many motorists and country dwellers who needed a true four-wheel drive automotive leviathan. Continue reading

Driverless Cars Sent To Coventry

It has just been revealed this week that Jaguar Land Rover launched the first UK public road test of driverless vehicles. It is an exciting announcement for the British motoring scene, largely due to the majority of news on autonomous vehicles coming from US companies like Google. The testing is to take place in Coventry within the city itself. This may sound alarming but the testing will have a human driver present and the experiments are mostly to see how well the vehicles ‘talk’ to each other. Therefore there isn’t a huge amount of risk of out of control machines causing chaos! Continue reading

Is It The End For The DSLR Camera?

In the years since digital imaging swamped film photography, the amateur photograph has ceased to be about memories and is more about the ‘now’. The digital world is now swamped with pics which highlight the truth that although the technology has improved beyond our wildest dreams the ability of many people to make a decent snap is still in question, especially when selling a car where any old pic would seem to do. Continue reading
