Suzuki Jimny: Go Tell The Spartans

I love the Suzuki Jimny. It is not a car that follows fads or trends. It does its own thing in its own time. It will not be hurried but will get on with job when required. It’s motto is, ‘I am what I am and that’s all that I am’. It does not assume airs and graces. It is an honest car. It is anti-fashion. Continue reading

Audi RSQ3 – Pocket-Sized Performance

If Audi see the tiniest gap in the car market they clearly feel compelled to fill it. Buyers of the more enthusiastic style of small hatch are already catered for by the German brand’s brilliant hot pocket rocket, the RS3. Thus it seems to me that to make, effectively, a taller version of the same thing seems wilfully pointless. So why do I love the Audi RSQ3 Performance so? Continue reading

Ford Take Us To The Edge

Today’s car is the Ford Edge, arguably the most American-looking of the the SUV class available to euro-buyers. Reaction among reviewers has been mixed. I sometimes wonder if reviewers don’t sometimes forget who is buying the car. Further on I mention some of the dashboard plastics. I wonder how many purchasers will even notice? I’m biased of course because I like big American trucks so I guess I was sold on the car at first sight. Continue reading

Skoda Octavia Scout – Practical Power & Purpose

I like a Skoda. I may have mentioned this before. They are competitively priced, well made and always surprisingly commodious. The Skoda Octavia Scout featured here is no different and is, in my opinion, worthy of consideration, especially for country dwellers. The regular Octavia Estate if fine but if you need a little more ground clearance and the benefits of intelligent four-wheel drive then the Scout is for you. Continue reading

The Subaru Forester – Not Trying To Be Something Else

It is well known in my circles that I am prepared to drive many miles for Rossi’s ice cream. One taste a long time ago on the Southend seafront and I was hooked. You can extol the virtues of your modern, exotic-flavoured, nature’s own ice-extravaganzas as much as you like but I will always, always say, ‘Make mine a Rossi’s’. I love it because all trends and fads pass it by like so much floating ephemera. It does not try to be something it isn’t. Rather conveniently like the Subaru Forester 2.0L XC diesel 4×4 featured here. Continue reading

Skoda Superb Estate 4×4 – The Flagship’s Flagship

The first Skoda car was launched onto an unsuspecting world around 1905. It was still for sale in 1987! No, no; only kidding. We can’t do that sort of thing any more. It’s not politically correct and it’s not factually correct. The days when Skoda cars were the butt of bad jokes are long gone. The fact is, the Czech company make great cars these days and they should be on everyone’s buying short list of mainstream motors. The Superb (at least until the launch of the upcoming Kodiaq SUV) is the flagship of the range and the flagship’s flagship has got to be the Skoda Superb SE L Executive Estate 4×4 featured today. Continue reading

Grand Improvements To The Jeep Grand Cherokee

As, this very morning, I am just starting my week with a Jeep Renegade, it seems reasonable to detail the latest updates to the Renegade’s big brother the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Plans to continue the success of this popular and successful SUV have been announced, with details of a raft of enhancements to the current model for 2016/17. Continue reading

The Subaru Levorg GT – Out And About

Regular readers will know that I am partial to a Subaru. To me they have a feeling of solidity and robustness that feels planted on the road. Generally, reaction to the Subaru Levorg Grand Tourer has been mixed; everyone agrees that it has a capable and well engineered permanent 4×4 system but it doesn’t float many boats overall. So I may be sailing against the tide here but I really rate it. Continue reading

Your Czech Mate: Skoda Yeti Remains A Firm Family Friend

The Skoda Yeti has been around for a few years now without changing that much and that’s no bad thing. There’s a new and larger one on the way in the next year or so but that doesn’t mean the current car is getting stale. It still has plenty to offer, especially when you can get this stylish feature packed Monte Carlo edition for less than £28k. Continue reading
