Audi R8 – Is It Really An Everyday Supercar?

In a brief and all too infrequent episode of extreme good fortune, Audi recently not only gave me the opportunity to drive the latest Audi R8 V10 Plus, they also allowed me to keep it for a week. The R8 is an automotive symphony of noise, raw power and surprising comfort. As you might expect, I had a wonderful time soured only by the knowledge that I would soon have to give it back. Continue reading

The New Audi SQ7 – Real Diesel Power

The first units of the new Audi SQ7 TDI – the world’s most powerful diesel SUV they say, will appear on the market from this Summer. With 435hp and 663.8 lb-ft of torque at its disposal, it accelerates from 0 to 62mph in just 4.8 seconds, with fuel consumption around the 32mpg mark. This equates to 18g/km of CO². European customers can order the Audi SQ7 TDI from mid-May. Continue reading

All Aboard The Audi A4 Express Train

It’s finally come to this. I have no complaints; no real criticisms. My mind is clear and not clouded by irritating grumbles. Sure, I can nitpick about the Audi A4 3.0L S-Line TDI quattro saloon I recently enjoyed for a week but when all is said and done, for me this car is near perfect. Some may not agree but our criteria for these things often varies. All I can say is that it was very hard to give it back. Very hard. Continue reading

Driving To Reading With The Radio On

I went to Reading. Somebody has to. Miles and miles of meandering, mundane motorway culminating in a car crawl through roundabouts and traffic lights just trying to get into the outskirts of the town. I can’t imagine what the centre must be like. Fortunately I was in the surprisingly enjoyable Audi A4 3.0L TDI S-Line (still with me at the mo – reviewing next week) you see in the image so at least my peace of mind remained undisturbed. Or so I thought… Continue reading

Audi Q7 – Out And About

It has been some time since I drove the previous – and only – iteration of Audi’s flagship SUV and, although perfectly fine, it was even then starting to show its age. So the replacement Audi Q7 seen here in sporting S-Line Quattro form is welcome and it makes its predecessor seem like a potentate’s barge. It has been given a complete overhaul. My week with this car has been varied and weather affected yet the Q7 rose above it all to give a great all-round experience. Continue reading

Audi Driver International Track Day 2015

Audi RS3, Audi driver MagazineLast week I had the pleasure of the company of the astonishing 362bhp Audi RS3 Sportback for one whole week; a week that seemed to rush by in more ways than one. Although it doesn’t seem appropriate to use the term ‘hot hatch’ for a car that costs the thick end of fifty grand it is in fact so, given that it is one of the fastest and most dynamic of its type on our roads today. Continue reading

Which Fuel Is The Right Fuel?

Audi Q3 petrolA version of this article first appeared in Audi Driver magazine: Whenever the global price of oil fluctuates so the debate about choice of fuel rises to the surface like a hardy perennial. It’s a question that vexes all who are in the market for a new or used car and the answer will always depend on the perceived use of the vehicle. Continue reading

Audi Q3 – The Big Small SUV

Audi Q3, DriveWrite AutomotiveSometimes, checking out the Audi portfolio can be a bit bewildering. They offer a huge range of cars, and, it’s fair to say, all of them are good and fulfil almost any personal motoring requirements known to mankind. There is, for example, a choice of three ‘Q’ cars to choose from, each one bigger than the next. Continue reading
