Subaru Times Two

I may have mentioned before that I am partial to a Subaru. (A passing lady of my long-term acquaintance has just looked over my shoulder and said, “Only about a million times”, before moving on. A bit over-exaggerated I thought). The Subaru brand has traditionally been popular among a dedicated core of buyers. Marketing is targeted towards specific niches centered on those who want the company’s signature drive-train, in particular the outdoors enthusiast and affordable sports car markets. Continue reading

Audi SQ5 – The Perfect Family And Driver Compromise

With so many Audi variants you could picture herds of them sweeping majestically across the plain. Yet they are all different. Just like the part-performance car, part-family-ready SUV that is the Audi SQ5. It’s already a firm UK favourite on the strength of its impressively well-rounded appeal. From this week though, its all-new successor retakes its rightful place at the head of the Q5 range offering an even more concentrated dose of that successful formula. Continue reading

Nissan X-Trail – A Worthy SUV Contender

Nissan X-Trail is not a silly or meaningless name for a car – unlike some I could mention. It conjures up an image of the great outdoors and of rugged exploration. The thing is, like almost every other car in these lifestyle days, or so it seems to me, the Nissan is now softer in its approach to the SUV market. Continue reading

Introducing The New Vauxhall Crossland X Crossover

Whether or not the world needs yet another funky crossover in this ‘burgeoning sector’ is a matter of opinion. Nevertheless here is Vauxhall’s latest offering, the Crossland X. The vehicle is crisp and compact, say the company, on the outside and spacious and flexible on the inside, with unique two-tone paintwork and SUV-styling. Continue reading

Kia Sportage Wins Hearts And Minds

With a steady October 2016 for car sales in the UK, the Kia Sportage remains a strong seller for the brand. The tested model – fourth generation – has seen a continued rise in sales since going on sale in February this year with over 31,400 sold since launch and 3,471 sold in October. Kia is showing a near fourteen per cent rise on 2015 figures and with good reason. This is a very good car. Continue reading

Suzuki Jimny: Go Tell The Spartans

I love the Suzuki Jimny. It is not a car that follows fads or trends. It does its own thing in its own time. It will not be hurried but will get on with job when required. It’s motto is, ‘I am what I am and that’s all that I am’. It does not assume airs and graces. It is an honest car. It is anti-fashion. Continue reading

Audi RSQ3 – Pocket-Sized Performance

If Audi see the tiniest gap in the car market they clearly feel compelled to fill it. Buyers of the more enthusiastic style of small hatch are already catered for by the German brand’s brilliant hot pocket rocket, the RS3. Thus it seems to me that to make, effectively, a taller version of the same thing seems wilfully pointless. So why do I love the Audi RSQ3 Performance so? Continue reading

Ford Take Us To The Edge

Today’s car is the Ford Edge, arguably the most American-looking of the the SUV class available to euro-buyers. Reaction among reviewers has been mixed. I sometimes wonder if reviewers don’t sometimes forget who is buying the car. Further on I mention some of the dashboard plastics. I wonder how many purchasers will even notice? I’m biased of course because I like big American trucks so I guess I was sold on the car at first sight. Continue reading

New Skoda Yeti. It Just Won’t Be The Same

Driving past a local Skoda dealer (whose name will never be spoken) I noticed a nice line of vehicles in two-tone paint jobs. Not like the slightly odd Peugeot ‘Coupe Franche’ design but rather a proper old school two colour design. It looks great and very individual indeed on various models including our old favourite, the Skoda Yeti. Continue reading
