Audi RSQ3 – Pocket-Sized Performance

If Audi see the tiniest gap in the car market they clearly feel compelled to fill it. Buyers of the more enthusiastic style of small hatch are already catered for by the German brand’s brilliant hot pocket rocket, the RS3. Thus it seems to me that to make, effectively, a taller version of the same thing seems wilfully pointless. So why do I love the Audi RSQ3 Performance so? Continue reading

Ford Take Us To The Edge

Today’s car is the Ford Edge, arguably the most American-looking of the the SUV class available to euro-buyers. Reaction among reviewers has been mixed. I sometimes wonder if reviewers don’t sometimes forget who is buying the car. Further on I mention some of the dashboard plastics. I wonder how many purchasers will even notice? I’m biased of course because I like big American trucks so I guess I was sold on the car at first sight. Continue reading

New Skoda Yeti. It Just Won’t Be The Same

Driving past a local Skoda dealer (whose name will never be spoken) I noticed a nice line of vehicles in two-tone paint jobs. Not like the slightly odd Peugeot ‘Coupe Franche’ design but rather a proper old school two colour design. It looks great and very individual indeed on various models including our old favourite, the Skoda Yeti. Continue reading

Jaguar F-Pace – The Distinctive SUV

As you no doubt know, the Jaguar F-Pace has been warmly received and is highly regarded. What’s not to like, after all? It is stylish and well made right here in Britain; it drives with athletic prowess and there’s ample space for the whole family yet I couldn’t quite help harbouring a slight sense of disappointment when the first snaps appeared. I guess I was hoping for something different and more exciting. I’m not complaining though; after all I am very fortunate to be loaned these cars and the distinctive Jaguar F-Pace almost reaches the pinnacle of the prestige SUV pole. Continue reading

Peugeot 2008 – Nicely Tailored For Families

Why is it, when you grab a few days away with the family to rest and take a break from work, you always come back even more exhausted? So while I ease my weary backside back into the saddle here’s something I prepared earlier and it concerns the latest iteration of the Peugeot 2008. Continue reading

DS4 Crossback – It’s Good But Not Quite…

When the Citroen DS3 first appeared it was, justifiably, a great success. Since then DS (Different Spirit apparently) has fledged fully and flown the nest to boldly go and find its place in the world. A better place it would seem: more upmarket and on trend with not a parental chevron in sight. Not for DS the run of the mill, no: the brand wants to move on up and take on the posh motors. There is still a way to go, as is the case for the DS4 Crossback. Continue reading

Jeep Renegade – American Style & Italian Breeding

The Jeep Renegade is chunky. In the manner of SUVs from the past it is square-cut and lantern-jawed but with 21st Century manners. The model as tested in Longitude trim (around £20k depending) is no friend of mud. That sort of business it leaves to its more off-road capable 4WD brethren which are much more up for a bit of track and trail ranging. Continue reading

Mazda CX-3 – Winning At The Crossover Party

I count myself fortunate to be allowed to drive all manner of cars. This week I had the experience of stepping out of a £72k luxury car and into a mainstream crossover costing just £20,000. Fortunately, this was less of a hardship than it first appears because the crossover was the really rather good Mazda CX-3 here presented in two-wheel drive guise. Continue reading

Audi & The Breath Of Fresh Air

And it came to pass that we entered the grass pollen season even as tree pollen is still doing its nasal thing. The good news is, from next month, compact Audi models will bring a breath of fresher air to their occupants thanks to a new air conditioning filter that not only removes fine particulates and harmful gases from the air, but also neutralises virtually all allergens. This will come as a blessing to those poor souls who suffer from the effects of tree pollen, grass pollen and nature’s sundry pollutants. Continue reading
