Mitsubishi Shogun – When The Going Gets Tough etc

The Mitsubishi Shogun is one of the last of its kind. An ageing off-roader that has served with distinction many motorists and country dwellers who needed a true four-wheel drive automotive leviathan. Continue reading

Volkswagen Scrappage Scheme

Following the news that the UK government plans to clear up air pollution across the UK, many manufacturers, including Volkswagen, have started to introduce diesel scrappage schemes to encourage British car owners to trade in their old diesel cars for new upgraded models. Continue reading

Top 10 Diesel Cars We Don’t Want To Scrap

These are the top 10 diesel cars that need saving from the scrappage scheme crusher – with some motors destined for ‘future classic’ status. British motorists are currently being encouraged to trade their older, diesel powered cars for low-emissions, petrol models instead.

Manufacturers like Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Mini and Renault have all recently launched scrappage schemes, with incentives ranging from between £2000 and £7000 off a new, more efficient, car. Continue reading

Scotland Plans to Phase Out Petrol and Diesel Vehicles by 2032

The news that the government planned to scrap new diesel and petrol cars by the year 2040 came as a major shock to UK drivers. However, for Scottish drivers this change could come sooner than they think. Continue reading

About European Emissions Standards

European emissions standards define the acceptable limits for exhaust emissions of new vehicles sold in the European Union. These standards are defined by a series of EU directives dictating the progressive introduction of increasingly stringent standards. Car manufacturers and, for example, business hire companies are obliged to comply. This infographic courtesy of Northgate Vehicle Hire tells the story: Continue reading

Diesel: Is It The End?

Twenty years ago the car buying public were encouraged to buy diesel vehicles to help save our embattled environment. How naive we were back then; how innocent. Why, we even voted Labour if you can imagine it! It won’t be news to anyone that this was not the greatest idea after all as it has caused an increase in diseases from asthma to cancer, allegedly driven vast numbers of folk to an early grave and sent up air pollution in our cities to levels even higher than the hot air that emanates from Parliament. Which is to say a lot. Continue reading

The Greening Of Britain

Apparently, at the C40 Conference of Mayors climate change knees-up held in Mexico City (And did you even know that there was a ‘conference of mayors’?), four of the world’s greatest cities – Paris, Madrid, Athens and Mexico City itself – have decided to ban diesel powered cars within the next decade. Expect this attitude to diesel to spread rapidly. No doubt Sadiq Khan will lay plans for London just as soon as he gets back from ‘fact-finding’ in sun-kissed Central America. Continue reading

Jaguar XJ R-Sport – An Effortless Way To Lose Your Licence

Previously I said goodbye to the current iteration of the Land Rover Discovery and felt sad at its passing. Demonstrating a shallower side to my nature however I bucked up enormously when I key-swapped the old Discovery for the nice new Ammonite Grey Jaguar XJ R-Sport SWB you see in the snaps. Well, you have to move on, don’t you? Continue reading

Diesel Bad, Diesel Good

Unless you have been orbiting Pluto with a broken smartphone you will have heard of the Volkswagen diesel ‘furore’ and the ripple effect it is having throughout the European car industry. Enough said about that; but how much do you care one way or the other? Continue reading

Shattered Dream Or No Surprise?

If you are British and have half a brain you will know full well that, one way or another, we are right royally ripped off from all sides all of the time. For example, some while ago the Utilities were ordered by toothless paper tigers (or ‘watchdogs’ as they are known) to simplify their power tariffs. What they actually did was change them. Make them different. Continue reading
