Skoda Superb Estate 4×4 – The Flagship’s Flagship

The first Skoda car was launched onto an unsuspecting world around 1905. It was still for sale in 1987! No, no; only kidding. We can’t do that sort of thing any more. It’s not politically correct and it’s not factually correct. The days when Skoda cars were the butt of bad jokes are long gone. The fact is, the Czech company make great cars these days and they should be on everyone’s buying short list of mainstream motors. The Superb (at least until the launch of the upcoming Kodiaq SUV) is the flagship of the range and the flagship’s flagship has got to be the Skoda Superb SE L Executive Estate 4×4 featured today. Peugeot 508 RXH – It’s Good But What Is It For?

I always applaud efforts by car makers to try something that moves at least part of their range out of the ‘mainstream’ even if it doesn’t always work out. The RCZ-R from the French manufacturer is a fine little sports car for example but is, alas being, deleted from the catalogue. That’s a shame and a sign of the times. The Peugeot 508 RXH is another example; it is the company’s effort to add a premium ‘all-roader’ model to the range but sadly it doesn’t quite come off. Continue reading

Regular readers will know that I am partial to a Subaru. To me they have a feeling of solidity and robustness that feels planted on the road. Generally, reaction to the Subaru Levorg Grand Tourer has been mixed; everyone agrees that it has a capable and well engineered permanent 4×4 system but it doesn’t float many boats overall.
