Volkswagen World Rally Team Stop At The Top

As a Rally enthusiast I from time to time try to persuade others that there is no better branch of motor sport. Driving as it should be and far more exciting a spectacle than the tedium that is Formula One. Although there are many diehard fans (see Rally Wales) for some odd reason this sport has failed to ignite the public as it once did in the deadly days of the old Group B cars. The End Of Motor Racing?

In a major cycle race, many crashes occur towards the end, especially if teams are building up for a mass high-speed sprint. The effects of a multi-rider pile-up are often catastrophic and injuries can be severe. For this reason individual timings are ‘neutralised’ in the last three kilometres so that involved riders will get the same time as the majority of finishers, a time they would otherwise have achieved.
