In The Heart Of England With A Porsche 718 Cayman

In England rain is a tradition. We look to the skies and wonder what that bright orb is above our heads. Eventually we recall dim memories of something called the sun. Well, a couple of weeks ago a little sun entered my life in the form of the latest version of the legendary Porsche Cayman (launch reviewed here), now designated with the number 718 in memory of a long-ago racing car. Inevitably, the weather failed to play ball and was typically appalling. I therefore am obliged to apologise for the dirty state of the car in some of my images. Continue reading

New McLaren Super Series At Geneva

Back in November I had the opportunity to drive the McLaren 650S in Spider form (HERE). It was, as you might expect, a superb example of automotive prowess and a great experience. Not content to rest on their supercar laurels, for McLaren Automotive a new era will begin this March with the launch of the second generation of its Super Series at the Geneva International Motor Show. Audi: The Successful 18-Year Tenure In The WEC

The shock waves are still being felt in the motorsport world following Audi’s decision to end their campaign in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) at the end of the 2016 season. At the time of the sensational announcement, Audi’s motorsport boss Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich stated: “After 18 years in prototype racing that were exceptionally successful for Audi, it’s obviously extremely hard to leave. Audi Sport Team Joest shaped the WEC during this period like no other team.” Continue reading

The Gazelle And The Bull

Why it’s nearly the end of the road for real performance cars in the UK:

Backstory

I recently spent the day enjoying not one but two astounding and brilliantly engineered cars. Last week was lived in the company of the Audi RS6 Performance (597bhp) with the added pleasure of an extended drive in the McLaren 650S Spider (641bhp). So, you might reasonably ask, why, you ungrateful git, are you grumbling about it? Continue reading

May The Horse Be With You – The Best-Selling Ford Mustang

Very quickly the Ford Mustang has become the UK’s most popular high-performance sports coupé, topping the list ahead of competition from Porsche, BMW, Jaguar and Mercedes. Figures for sports cars with 246bhp or more put the Mustang at the front of the pack from January to July 2016. Continue reading

Subaru BRZ – Thoughts On Driving Pleasure.

Over half a century ago the late and legendary Colin Chapman, when talking about performance in cars, said, “Simplify, then add lightness”. If around today he would no doubt be delighted by the Subaru BRZ. The BRZ was born from a desire to develop a sports car which was built only to the mantra of sheer driving pleasure. Thanks to this unwavering determination, Subaru have certainly achieved their aim. It’s a pocket rocket. Continue reading
