Subaru Times Two

I may have mentioned before that I am partial to a Subaru. (A passing lady of my long-term acquaintance has just looked over my shoulder and said, “Only about a million times”, before moving on. A bit over-exaggerated I thought). The Subaru brand has traditionally been popular among a dedicated core of buyers. Marketing is targeted towards specific niches centered on those who want the company’s signature drive-train, in particular the outdoors enthusiast and affordable sports car markets. Two New Subaru Cars Announced

As I’ve mentioned before, I like a Subaru. They may not be trendy but they are dependable, rugged and well made. Now, Subaru have been pleased to announce that an all-new Subaru XV will make its global debut at the this year’s Geneva International Motor Show to be held in Switzerland from the 7th to the 19th of March. Continue reading

The Subaru Forester – Not Trying To Be Something Else

It is well known in my circles that I am prepared to drive many miles for Rossi’s ice cream. One taste a long time ago on the Southend seafront and I was hooked. You can extol the virtues of your modern, exotic-flavoured, nature’s own ice-extravaganzas as much as you like but I will always, always say, ‘Make mine a Rossi’s’. I love it because all trends and fads pass it by like so much floating ephemera. It does not try to be something it isn’t. Rather conveniently like the Subaru Forester 2.0L XC diesel 4×4 featured here. Continue reading

Subaru WRX STi – Old School, Still Cool

Many will remember the halcyon days of rallying when Colin McRae monstered the World Rally Championship in the forerunner of the Scooby featured here. Then, for a while and unaccountably, the Subaru WRX STi went all hatchback-y and the purists grumbled. It was just wrong. Then it disappeared completely! Then, a couple of years or so ago, Subaru brought it back to the UK! Hurrah! Continue reading

Subaru BRZ – Thoughts On Driving Pleasure.

Over half a century ago the late and legendary Colin Chapman, when talking about performance in cars, said, “Simplify, then add lightness”. If around today he would no doubt be delighted by the Subaru BRZ. The BRZ was born from a desire to develop a sports car which was built only to the mantra of sheer driving pleasure. Thanks to this unwavering determination, Subaru have certainly achieved their aim. It’s a pocket rocket. Continue reading

Subaru WRX STI To Tackle Isle Of Man TT Course

Pikes Peak not being enough for them apparently, Subaru of America have announced that the company intend to make yet another record attempt on the legendary and sacred Isle of Man TT Course, this time with rally driver Mark Higgins. Higgins will drive an all-new 2016 Subaru WRX STI time attack car that was jointly developed by Subaru of America and Prodrive, with technical assistance provided by Subaru Tecnica International (that’s the STI part). The new car is purpose built for the Isle of Man TT Course. Continue reading

The Subaru Levorg GT – Out And About

Regular readers will know that I am partial to a Subaru. To me they have a feeling of solidity and robustness that feels planted on the road. Generally, reaction to the Subaru Levorg Grand Tourer has been mixed; everyone agrees that it has a capable and well engineered permanent 4×4 system but it doesn’t float many boats overall. So I may be sailing against the tide here but I really rate it. Continue reading

Subaru Outback – The Outsider Impresses

At the risk of repeating myself, I like a Subaru. With the possible exception of the XV, there isn’t a car in the range I wouldn’t be pleased to own. It’s not easy to pinpoint why. They are not noted for their cutting edge design and the like, it’s just that they feel solid and dependable, as if they could motor on forever. Continue reading

The New & Improved Subaru XV

Subaru XVI have always been a great fan of Subaru vehicles. When I first tried the XV it was fine but I was a bit underwhelmed, sad to say, because I liked the look of it. Now fortunately Subaru UK has announced a raft of modifications and upgrades to the interior and chassis of the XV compact crossover. The changes will hopefully result in improvements to cabin refinement and ambience plus an improved drive. There’s a new infotainment system too, first seen on the new Outback earlier this year. Continue reading

Subaru Outback – New And Available Next Month

Launched in the UK in 1995 and spawning a whole new vehicle segment, the Outback was the world’s first crossover, say Subaru, successfully combining the benefits of a passenger estate car with the all-road capabilities of an SUV. For twenty years, the Outback has acted as Subaru’s flagship model in the UK, winning praise for its practical, all-road nature and long distance capabilities. Continue reading
