Volkswagen World Rally Team Stop At The Top

As a Rally enthusiast I from time to time try to persuade others that there is no better branch of motor sport. Driving as it should be and far more exciting a spectacle than the tedium that is Formula One. Although there are many diehard fans (see Rally Wales) for some odd reason this sport has failed to ignite the public as it once did in the deadly days of the old Group B cars. It doesn’t help when the most successful team ups and quits without a word of warning. Continue reading

A Look At The 2017 Volkswagen Crafter

The all-new Volkswagen Crafter has been officially launched, with the van set to prove a worthy rival to popular vehicles such as the Fiat Ducato, the Ford Transit and the Mercedes Sprinter. The UK’s largest used van retailer Van Monster has taken a look at why fleet drivers should be excited about the release of this new large panel van: Continue reading

The New Volkswagen Tiguan – Short Drive Review

I recall that it was a couple of years ago when I last drove the Volkswagen Tiguan. Obviously that was the Mk1 version, but I do remember that I was largely underwhelmed. Certainly it was well made with the usual VW attention to quality, but it didn’t excite. It was worthy and functional but lacked charisma. That has all changed now. Continue reading

Volkswagen Touran MPV – Sensible Shoes

The thing to remember about a Multi-Purpose Vehicle is that the clue is in the MPV designation. In the case of the Volkswagen Touran it means we have a mid-size seven-seat vehicle which has many practical uses, none of which include driving thrills, I’m afraid. This is the car you want when there is child wrangling to be done, family road trips to be organised or awkward items to be collected from the garden centre. Continue reading

Shattered Dream Or No Surprise?

If you are British and have half a brain you will know full well that, one way or another, we are right royally ripped off from all sides all of the time. For example, some while ago the Utilities were ordered by toothless paper tigers (or ‘watchdogs’ as they are known) to simplify their power tariffs. What they actually did was change them. Make them different. Continue reading

Volkswagen Golf GTi – Not The Fastest, Still The Best

Golf GTI, DriveWrite AutomotiveIncredibly, 2016 will usher in the fortieth birthday of this iconic fast German motor. Now in its seventh iteration it has matured like a fine wine to the extent that it now transcends the ubiquitous term ‘hot hatch’, demonstrating that a car can evolve into a vehicle suitable for grown-ups without losing the fun factor that made it so popular all those decades ago. Continue reading

Volkswagen Polo GTI 3 Door – Short Drive Review

VW Polo GTiColin Hubbard has been at it again. The man’s insatiable. Here’s his latest excellent review: When I think of a small hot hatch the Clio 200, Fiesta ST, Corsa VXR and 208GTi instantly spring to mind. I find it rather strange that the Polo GTI, little brother to the fabulous Golf GTI, has always lived in its shadow and rarely gets a second look. Previous incarnations were a little tame, fine on paper with engines ranging from a 1.8L 20v turbo to a turbo and supercharged little 1.4L but overall they have lacked sparkle. Continue reading
