Volkswagen Polo – A Match For Any Supermini

Whenever a prospective buyer considers a choice of supermini hatchbacks, the first thought is of the evergreen Fiesta and with very good reason. In fact, this segment of the car market is awash with decent small cars but, instead of the Ford, perhaps at the top of any short list should also be the Volkswagen Polo, voted the 2016 supermini of the year.. Red Bull Rocks WRC Rally Stars

Great news rally fans! With non-stop action on snow, mud, tarmac, gravel and even sometimes the surrounding countryside, the FIA World Rally Championship radiates adrenalin. The aforementioned great news then is that next year the WRC will be seen for the first time live on Red Bull TV. Continue reading

New Skoda Yeti. It Just Won’t Be The Same

Driving past a local Skoda dealer (whose name will never be spoken) I noticed a nice line of vehicles in two-tone paint jobs. Not like the slightly odd Peugeot ‘Coupe Franche’ design but rather a proper old school two colour design. It looks great and very individual indeed on various models including our old favourite, the Skoda Yeti. Continue reading

A Look At The 2017 Volkswagen Crafter

The all-new Volkswagen Crafter has been officially launched, with the van set to prove a worthy rival to popular vehicles such as the Fiat Ducato, the Ford Transit and the Mercedes Sprinter. The UK’s largest used van retailer Van Monster has taken a look at why fleet drivers should be excited about the release of this new large panel van: Continue reading

The New Volkswagen Tiguan – Short Drive Review

I recall that it was a couple of years ago when I last drove the Volkswagen Tiguan. Obviously that was the Mk1 version, but I do remember that I was largely underwhelmed. Certainly it was well made with the usual VW attention to quality, but it didn’t excite. It was worthy and functional but lacked charisma. That has all changed now. Continue reading

An Automotive Smokescreen To Cheat The Public

Audi, VW, DriveWrite AutomotiveThere is a large, stormy cloud with an officially thunderous face hanging over Audi, just as there is with Volkswagen and for the same reason. The Americans have accused the company of ‘engine faults’ (that’s ‘fiddling with the bits’ to you and me). This is seen as A Bad Thing, especially by the swivel-eyed monomaniacs to whom the car is the devil in a tin dress; but can we please put this ‘storm’ into perspective? Continue reading

Shattered Dream Or No Surprise?

If you are British and have half a brain you will know full well that, one way or another, we are right royally ripped off from all sides all of the time. For example, some while ago the Utilities were ordered by toothless paper tigers (or ‘watchdogs’ as they are known) to simplify their power tariffs. What they actually did was change them. Make them different. Continue reading

Volkswagen Polo GTI 3 Door – Short Drive Review

VW Polo GTiColin Hubbard has been at it again. The man’s insatiable. Here’s his latest excellent review: When I think of a small hot hatch the Clio 200, Fiesta ST, Corsa VXR and 208GTi instantly spring to mind. I find it rather strange that the Polo GTI, little brother to the fabulous Golf GTI, has always lived in its shadow and rarely gets a second look. Previous incarnations were a little tame, fine on paper with engines ranging from a 1.8L 20v turbo to a turbo and supercharged little 1.4L but overall they have lacked sparkle. Continue reading
